Ward 5 Black History Street Designation Ceremonies

During 2023’s Black History Month, Councilmember Parker introduced a package of street designation bills in honor of prominent Black figures with ties to Ward 5. Now that these bills have passed the Council, we will host ceremonies to unveil these new street designations throughout 2024.

The first ceremony was on March 15, 2024 at 1900 Gallaudet St NE (symbolically designated Alexander Crummell Way).

The second ceremony was on April 4, 2024 in the 1400 block of Morse St NE (symbolically designated Edna Brown Coleman Way).

The third street designation ceremony was in the 1800 block of 2nd St NW on June 27, 2024 (symbolically designated Dorothy Celeste Boulding Ferebee Way).

The fourth street designation ceremony was in the 100 block of W St NW on July 11, 2024 (symbolically designated Jesse Mitchell Way).

The fifth and final street designation ceremony will take place as part of Ward 5 Week leading up to Ward 5 Day 2024. The ceremony will take place in the 1900 block of Randolph St NE on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Location and time are subject to change; stay tuned for more details here soon! This street designation will honor Ward 5’s first Councilmember, William Spaulding, as the 1900-2400 blocks of Randolph St NE are designated William Spaulding Way.

Ward 5 Monthly Public Safety Calls

These monthly calls are an opportunity for neighbors to hear updates from our office on efforts to address crime in Ward 5 and improve public safety. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from public safety agencies. The Ward 5 Monthly Public Safety Call is always livestreamed to the Councilmember’s YouTube Channel, where it remains as a recording afterward. Slides from the call are shared in the subsequent Ward 5 Weekly Newsletter

Next Call: Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Register here.
