In the newsletter, you’ll find many more updates from a busy week on the Council. As the end of Council Period 25 approaches, my colleagues and I are working hard to advance legislation and perform oversight. And today, Mayor Bowser announced that the Director of DC’s Department of Human Services (DHS), Laura Zeilinger, is leaving her role. I want to thank Director Zeilinger for her nearly 10 years of dedicated service leading one of our city’s most vital agencies. DHS is at the forefront of tackling benefits assistance, homelessness, employment access, and more. Moving forward, I will be looking for the Mayor to nominate a new leader who is able to fill the big shoes Director Zeilinger leaves behind by putting residents first, being ready to tackle systemic challenges at the agency, and helping us drive down homelessness.
