Dear Ward 5 neighbors,
The Council is about to head into a busy week where we will face big decisions. On Monday, we will take our second vote on the FY26 budget. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we are holding public hearings on the RFK Campus Redevelopment Act of 2025. And just yesterday, Chairman Mendelson announced that the Council will hold its first vote on the RFK legislation next Friday. To say we are in a consequential moment for the future of the District would be an understatement.
The reason I go to work everyday is to try and make life better for everyday Washingtonians. I believe—and the data shows—that the deck is often stacked against working class neighbors, families, and children. Budgets are moral documents, and there are several pressing issues that will require us to fight to center the interests of working class Washingtonians in the coming days.
