Dear Ward 5 neighbors,
After weeks of input from you through the Ward 5 Budget Forum, Ward 5 Budget Survey, and countless conversations and meetings held over several months to discuss the District’s budget, I sent my FY27 Budget Letter to Mayor Bowser earlier this week. This letter details the priorities I am eyeing as the Council prepares to receive Mayor Bowser’s proposed budget in April.
In short, I am asking the mayor to prioritize 1) investment in anti-poverty programs, 2) reducing inefficiencies and wasteful spending, and 3) advancing critical projects for Ward 5 facilities, businesses, seniors, and youth. While we know the District is facing financial challenges, I believe it is possible to deepen our investments in everyday Washingtonians while also making targeted cuts for fiscal responsibility.
