Lending a Helping Hand

Dear Ward 5 neighbors,

Next Wednesday, my office will distribute turkeys across Ward 5 for our Holiday Turkey Giveaway! I’m grateful for the generous faith communities who are partnering with us this year to make this distribution possible. Thank you to Greater Mount Calvary Church, Grace MosaicUnion Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, and New Samaritan Baptist Church for joining us as we lend a helping hand this holiday season.

There are many moving parts to the Holiday Turkey Giveaway, and some elements have changed, so please take note of these important details:

  • All turkeys made available through our registration form have been claimed. If you signed up through the form, we sent you an email confirming your turkey.
    • Seniors (65+) who reserved a turkey will have it delivered to them by one of our amazing volunteers next Wednesday, November 20 between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    • All other neighbors who reserved a turkey must pick it up next Wednesday, November 20 between 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center (1100 Michigan Ave NE).
  • We will also hold first-come, first-served pop-ups for turkey giveaways at two locations and times on Wednesday, November 20, 2024:
    • 11:00 a.m. @ Carver Terrace: Patsy Hartsfield Center (2026 Maryland Ave NE)
    • 1:30 p.m. @ North Michigan Park Recreation Center (1333 Emerson ST NE)
  • Finally, we are directly coordinating distributions and raffles for turkeys at senior buildings and other communities across Ward 5 throughout the day on November 20:
    • Edgewood 635
    • Green Valley Apartments
    • Wesley House
    • Vicksburg
    • Gettysburg
    • Petersburg
    • Hedin House
    • North Capitol @ Plymouth
    • Brookland Manor
    • Brentwood Recreation Center

Every neighbor deserves to have a hearty, warm meal on the table this holiday season, and I am grateful for the many folks coming together to make that possible. If you have any questions about the turkey giveaway or want to help volunteer on November 20, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with us at 202-724-8028, ward5contact@dccouncil.gov.
