Dear Ward 5 neighbors,
Tomorrow is the biggest party of the year celebrating all things Ward 5! I hope to see you there. We’ll have food from more than a dozen Ward 5 restaurants (oxtail pizza, anyone?), live go-go from Sirius Company, a soccer clinic with DC United, go-karts and moon bounces, line dancing, community resources, and so much more. Bring the block and let’s celebrate Ward 5!
The celebration will also include a moment of recognition and remembrance for Ms. Romaine B. Thomas, a pillar of the Ward 5 community who passed earlier this year. Ms. Thomas was a remarkable education and civic leader, the wife of former Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Sr. and the mother of former Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr. Ward 5 Day was originally started by Harry Thomas, Sr., and when I came into office, Ms. Thomas asked that I honor his legacy by reviving the annual celebration. I am proud to have done so and this will be an extra special Ward 5 Day as we celebrate her legacy. Ward 5 Day as we know it wouldn’t be possible without her!
