Many neighbors have interacted with my office as I have worked for much needed improvements along the South Dakota Ave corridor, including through our traffic safety walks, South Dakota Ave Safety Survey, and oversight as I secured and followed up on dedicated funding for improvements.
DDOT is now moving forward with a Safety Study of South Dakota Ave. No decisions have been made. This is just the beginning of what will be an iterative process of community engagement. There was a virtual meeting on Thursday, May 30, and an in-person meeting on Saturday, June 1, to kickoff the Safety Study. I have elevated the request of neighbors that DDOT extend the public comment period, and they’ve agreed to keep it open through mid-August.
You can view the slides from DDOT’s meetings HERE, and watch the recording of the virtual meeting by clicking the video below. PLEASE BE SURE TO GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK! There are two ways to provide input:
- This questionnaire, which allows you to share your priorities for the corridor and leave general comments about what improvements you would like to see.
- This public input map, which allows you to leave comments and pinpoint concerns on a map of the corridor.
Of course, I also encourage neighbors to share thoughts and questions with my office throughout this process (ward5contact@dccouncil.gov, 202-724-8028) and to stay tuned to my weekly newsletter for regular updates.
