Dear Ward 5 neighbors,
From the streets of Ward 5 to the halls of Congress, this week has been full of all the ways we’re pushing back together against federal overreach. On Tuesday evening at the intersection of Florida Ave & North Capitol St, we protested together to say, “Enough!” and “No more!” to the surge of federal troops that are terrorizing our communities, costing taxpayers millions of dollars, and intruding on local autonomy. We will continue these demonstrations every week on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., and I hope you’ll join by signing up at ward5.us/resist.
Next week, we’ll continue these efforts with a trip to Congress to make our message clear: the surge of federal forces on the neighborhood streets of DC is unnecessary, expensive, and dangerous. Join us on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, September 9 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to visit Senate offices and take our message to representatives from around the country. You can register at ward5.us/onthehill, and we’ll get you all the details on how to participate.
While these are difficult times, I am unwavering in my belief that we will weather this storm together, and that the bonds forged through our shared commitments to democracy, Home Rule, and our right to self-governance will prevail.
