Dear Ward 5 neighbors,
After months of uncertainty amidst a budget crisis inflicted on the District by Congress, we now know the release date of the Mayor’s budget proposal: May 27. The Mayor and her team are “pencils down” on their proposal as of this past Wednesday evening, and the budget now goes to the District’s Chief Financial Officer for 10 days to be certified before coming to the Council. This means we will likely finalize the FY26 budget around late July/early August. While this goes into official Council recess (scheduled to begin July 15), we are committed to getting the job done and delivering for residents on a budget that works for all of us. On Monday, I’ll be announcing my budget priorities and key areas of focus as the Council prepares to finally enter budget season. Stay tuned!
