Months of chaos at the federal administration level and wide-ranging shifts in the workforce and economy are coming to bear in new ways on DC.
For the first time since earning the triple-A rating in 2018, the District has been downgraded to an Aa1 by Moody’s Ratings, an international measurement of financial stability and health. Moody’s Ratings also indicates the District’s outlook as “negative,” and attributes these downgrades solely to federal government actions. DC’s fiscal health is suffering under the weight of compounding federal government decisions.
