I’ve been huddling for much of this week with elected officials from around the country to discuss education policy as part of the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows program. District students are top-of-mind for me, and I have deeply appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with other policy-makers on strategies for helping our students succeed.
As summer starts to wind down and we get ready for back-to-school, I want to make sure your calendars are marked for Ward 5 Day! A tradition dating back to the days of Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Sr., we revived Ward 5 Day in 2023 as a celebration of our community and all the people who help it thrive. Featuring food from Ward 5 businesses, live music and dancing, games, giveaways, a basketball tournament, community resources and more, it’s a day you don’t want to miss. September 20, 2025 at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center (1100 Michigan Ave NE), join us to celebrate all things Ward 5.
